How To Pick Your Next Vacation Destination

Are you endlessly scrolling looking for your next dreamy location but feeling overwhelmed? With so much information out there it is hard to decide where to go next that works best for you and your interest. It is also very easy to get FOMO when you see friends in St. Tropez but you are more of a hiking the PNW type of person.

Lets break down the top things you need to consider when planning your vacation to help you focus in!

Budget Budget Budget

Look, talking about money is never easy but you cannot plan your ideal vacation without knowing how much you are willing to spend. You can also plan incredible vacations on a budget and even leverage credit card points and freebies to still make your dreams come true. Your budget should include how much you want to spend on flights, hotels, meals, experiences, shopping, and transportation - not just your hotel and flight!

Duration

How long do you have for your vacation? Is this just a quick weekend trip? A two week adventure? Duration gives you an idea into 1) how far you are willing to travel and 2) How many cities you want to visit. For example, if you only have 4 days, I would not recommend a U.S. to London flight but maybe a long weekend in Jackson Hole. You want to spend most of your time in your destination and travel time quickly eats into that!

Time of Year

It is important to consider when you are going to travel, do you want to go to Berlin but it is the middle of January and 25 degrees? That would mean most outdoor activities will be closed, which would make the trip less expensive but ultimately limiting! If you can take advantage of good weather and off season you are going to pay less and get to do everything on your list. For example, going to Europe in March- May could save you 20-30% on your flight alone.

YOU!

Now this is most important and almost always forgotten, are you an indoor cat? Then why did you plan a trip to climb to the top of a volcano in Guatemala? No matter where you are going, you are still yourself! This one took me a long time to grasp, I would alway see other peoples experiences and then when I tried to copy them I enjoyed them a lot less because I was doing what I thought I should be doing, not what I wanted.
